The Honda Company has finally introduced a small car with a view of making it big in small car segment in India. The small car segment has been the most competitive segment, especially in India where customers in significant numbers look for a small car at minimum budget range. So, it is quite understandable that Honda has come up with a small car in order to tap this market. At the same time, the Company has wanted to maintain its reputation by positioning the car in the luxury range, so that it makes a big impression like that of its most successful cars Honda City and Civic.

With the first look at the Jazz, we can be assured that it makes a good impression on road. I can also not help but feel that if the same model was introduced earlier than i20, it would certainly have made the best impression. Once I enter the car, the interior comfort gives a sense of getting into a luxury car. The seats are comfortable with cushioning and spacious legroom, and they justify the statement of "One life, why so serious?".

The power of 90PS with 1.2L Ivtech engine justifies and boosts confidence in the Honda cars. With the track record of the successful Honda New City, definitely we need not worry about performance. At the same time, the Features of the base model are a setback, as it comes without climate control, alloy wheels etc. Indeed, the test drive I took was very impressive and the car's acceleration, handling and breaking all proved good.

It could have certainly made a big success with the same price if launched earlier than the Fabia and i20, but now its seems to be too late. With the earlier rumours that Hoda might have priced the the car around 4.5 Lac, many customers would have planned to switch over to Honda for hatchback but now the option goes back to Swift, Indica Vista, and if budget is little higher then i20 and only at the end, consider New Honda Jazz.

Conclusion: an excellent car with good looks, but simply too, too expensive.

I test drove JAZZ a month back and found it lacking the pulling power while on a steep incline (in comparison with my spark). That apart, I found the car extremely good.

Any idea on how the JAZZ sales are figuring, now that its almost 2 months or more since its launch? Has the high price tag seriously affected the sales, as it was thought to?

I thin the price is too high, at least a reduction of Rs 50K will make people to think about buying this car.

The Jazz Honda car is great but expensive. Actually it should have been 6.5 to 7 Lacks then everybody would have gone for it. The price factor makes people to go for Maruti Desire or I20 Hyundai model or even Tata Vista. Please try to revise the price of Jazz fast before that car gets outdated and new other make car come sin market.

It goes without saying that Honda created ripples with the news that it may launch Honda Jazz with a price tag of Rs.4.50 lac or so and everyone was waiting for the launch of the beauty. But on launching declaration of the on-road price dampened spirits and enthusiasm.Quite a few Honda fans might have lined up funds for buying the car but had to withdraw due to the high price and availability of equally efficient and price competitive cars from the stables of other car manufacturers.

hopeless car WORST DISIGHN / INTERIOR /SIZE-- POOR RATE COASTING PUNTO IS MUCH BETTER IN THIS SEGMENT.
WE RECOMEND FIAT TO HONDA CUSTOMERS.

I had been waiting for a long time to BUY the Jazz. But the price is more than what I expected. So I think I have to be satisfied with a top end Swift or i20.

Excatly my sentiments. I was willing to pay 7lac for it the moment I saw it. But 8 lac is lust pusing it a bit toooo far. Are they any buyers for it at 8 lac????????
PS I'd pay 8lac if they throw in a 1.4l/1.6l 110PS+ engine in there :)

your review is very good. i am also in the impression tha JAZZ is a failure vehicle because of its price tag and also it competing with its own Honda CITY.Any body want to go for Hoda they go for honda city rather than jazz and as you said they prefer i20 rather than jazz

Coupled with the high Maintenance cost of Honda Cars, JAZZ is just going to BUZZ OFF the market...in no time...
Jai HO to Maruti Swift, Tata Indica & Hyundai i20 !!!
Rao (June 15, 2009, 15:45)
Honda Jazz is packed with rich features and a great engine. A 1.2 litre i-vtec which delivers 90 bhp - wow! Nobody can pull out some power from such a small & compact engine. The build quality as usual is superb - and the noise level very low. Overall a very refined product - with great aerodynamics. It is actually not a small car - but a big car with slighly smaller boot. Great of City & Highway driving.
If only Honda would have priced this car a bit cheaper - maybe a lac less. At Rs 8 lacs plus - one is pushed to consider Honda City or some other Sedans like Verna, Fiesta etc.
Samir Rasam (June 15, 2009, 14:56)
This is going to be a absolute faiure.no body is going to buy at such a higher price as there are lot of options in small car segment.
SATYABRATA RAY (June 15, 2009, 14:37)
honda has disappointed people by fixing far higher price than it deserves
Reddygln (June 15, 2009, 12:16)
I was waiting for Jazz. But after they unveiled the prices it was like too costly for hatchback segment. I think the car is really over priced. With almost 70% manufacturing in India and 30% imported parts the car should have been much much cheaper. Honda does not want to touch the immatured customer base it seems. Anyways... I will prefer going for Swift/Indica Vista instead. All the best team.
Umesh (June 15, 2009, 10:58)
This is really crap, Indian market moves especially on the pricing, something similar has already happened once with civic hybrid. People always prefer +50k go for City.

Why dont Honda understand there is no more monopoly specially when it comes to this segment. Users has much wider choice.
Mohan (June 15, 2009, 10:33)
I tend to agree that the price is high for this segment, particularly when other comparable options are available.I had been waiting for the launch of Honda Jazz but was feeling withdrawn after looking at the price tag.
H K Tewari (June 15, 2009, 07:37)
Over Priced for the Indian Market. No value for the money.
One can get better Value with I20 Swift - Ritz. Honda needs to do more market research and price this car perhaps $ 5.7 Lakhs for base Model. If it was a little over I20 then it would be fair deal. With all the loan payments available now with banks - 50,000 More gets me into a City. I rather drive the city.
Andy Atta (June 15, 2009, 01:47)
Test drove the Jazz today.
Found that the car had EXCELLENT front visibility. Extremely spacious interiors (bigger than even CITY).
However underpowered engine, and overpriced car makes it unlikely that I will consider buying this.
However this makes the upper version of i 20 (5.6 lakh) looks very good :)
Golu (June 15, 2009, 00:00)
please tell me about a.c. performance at the speed below 30 KM PH. i after test drive did not found a.c. affective at that speed.
Bajprehi (June 14, 2009, 22:57)
What about Diesel version ? They are not able to produce.
Ramakrishnan (June 14, 2009, 20:57)
The price of the car is very high in this segment and there are more option available in market which are giving good engine power and features at low cost like Hyundai i10 and i20, Maruti Swift ZXi is a better option if anyone wants same features at low cost. There is only one conclusion that the price of Honda Jazz is very high.
Amit Garg (June 14, 2009, 19:11)
hi
i had a test drive with Jazz today, but i didnt feel its an HONDA product... poor plastics, un finished door joints( inside). braking is very poor, pickup is not much prettier, Totally its not a value for money
Srinivasvellore (June 14, 2009, 18:49)
I wown't buy this car. I was planning to buy this one for so many days. But how can it be compared with other small car segment cars?
Ashis (June 14, 2009, 17:10)
No words to say for this car except price. If they reduce the price upto 5 lacs it will definitely hit in the market otherwise, we can see these cars as showcase pieces.
