Toyota Yaris in India
Toyota Kirloskar Motors India has put its small car program on fast-track for its small car, Yaris, to be launched in India. More than 50 engineers are toiling their way at Toyota's R&D centres to speed up the launch of the new small car model in India from Toyota. The company currently holds 3 percent market share in the country while it is a global auto leader by sales. It plans to capture more than 10 percent market share by 2015.

The new car for India is also under testing and development at company's research and development centre in Japan. It would be a Toyota Yaris look alike, commented Hiroshi Nakagawa, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India. He also stated that the company also plans to launch a sedan and a hatchback model in the compact car segment.

Toyota started modestly in 1997 with a capacity of producing 27,000 cars annually at its Karnataka plant and increased its capacity by an average of 18 percent each year. Now it has laid foundation for its second plant in India in the state. Once the small car project is complete, it shall establish a second plant there which would scale up its investments and equipments in the country. It shall also expand its dealer network in India to boost its sales.

I just happened to see this car in dubai. I must admit it is an absolute stunner. Toyota would do well to introduce the sedan version in the Indian market. It sure will give the HONDA City's & the FORD Fiesta's a run for the money

Well Toyota needs to launch a small car, inorder to boost sales much more in the midsize segment. Mean while, The corolla Altis is all set to be launched in september, guys any one interested to come for the launch of the car, which would be on 24th Aug, at Shinrai Toyota, Worli Naka, get in touch if needed help- 9820864772.
Its a neat car and would compete with the Jetta.
But Toyota will do well in the near future in the indian market.

Hi Sashi,
I have no problem to bring this model into india as it doesnot affect me in anyway! but what i was trying to say is that it is an existing model with old improvised Echo engine in a new shell. As long as we get a good product from anybody we must welcome it. At the same time India is becoming a dumping spot for many business industries. Take the case of pharmaceuticals. We get all the banned medicine freely available in the market. Hence we can welcome anything which will benefit us and India.

The car looks beautiful in pictures and if it is
akready existing in The Middle East/ whats the problem in bringing it ibto India by 1st September 2008 ??? The earlier the better.
Shashikumar (August 09, 2008)
I am doubtful about Toyoto having a plant in and around Chennai. This model is already an existing one in Middle east and waht ind of research trials are on? on this model. This is the old Echo engine redisigned in a new shell.
Selvan (August 09, 2008)
Dear Mr.Rishi,
Pls. check facts before publishing...
Toyota has never had a car plant in Chennai.
R P Rao (August 09, 2008)
In order to increase it's market share Toyota must launch immediately a Car in the size of Getz/Swift etc. It should also have a optional auto transmission 4 or 5 speed. Toyota with it's present fleet may not able to boost it's market share.
