Skoda is all geared to develop a new platform for its small car based on existing platform developed by its parent company, Volkswagen. The Czech auto maker is all set to roll out a new small car to cater to the Indian markets.

Skoda shall sell the car globally and expects to roll out this car in next two years. It shall be currently offering its new hatchback, Fabia, to the Indian customers. Fabia was launched earlier this year and shall be available to Indian customers by mid-2009. It is being produced locally at its manufacturing plant in Pune.

According to Thomas Kuehl, Director, Skoda India, “Our small car will be launched first in India. The car will cater to virgin markets and will be priced in the Rs 3-5 lakh bracket.” Skoda also aims to expand its product portfolio in India and shall launch eight more models in next five years.
