Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit launched India's first electric car in Delhi which has been developed after 13 years of research and development. She described it as "the cute little car" and stated that it was a green day for the city. She also stated that she has been using this car for small distances and the car is her personal preference. She called out to all those people who own several cars and urged them to own atleast one Revan in the view of its environment friendly attributes.

Government announced a 15 percent subsidy on the car which would be priced at Rs. 2.99 lakh. The 12.5 percent value added tax has also been exempted on the car. A further refund of road tax and registration fee has also been announced by the government to make it popular. The car would cost 40 paise per kilometre.

According to the President of Reva Electric car Co., the company expects to sell 3000 units in the first year of its launch. The new model has been named as "REVAi" and has an exclusive feature of getting the serviced at customer's home. The car provides an acceleration of 0-40 km in just 7 seconds and the battery life is of about 120 km in single charge. It comes with remote AC and gives a speed of 80km per hour with a/c and 129 km/hour without air conditioning.

The Delhi Govt move to give subsidy is a welcome move. But they do not know that Reva Company has no ethics to pass the subsidy to the people. In Bangalore the basic on road price is 349705. This is including all taxes etc. when delhi govt is giving discount of 27.5% then the on road price should have been around Rs.253500/- However the cash hungry Reva is charging Rs.299000 from the gullible people of Delhi and this in no way going to help the consumers. Delhi govt should intervene and see that all the benefits are passed on to the consumer totally.
