Volkswagen India Pvt, Ltd. operates as a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG. The company was incorporated in 2007 and is based in Pune, India. It develops, manufactures, and sells automotives in the country and has its impressive product portfolio in passenger car segment. It operates in two divisions in India – Automotive and Financial Services.

 

Volkswagen AG’s global portfolio includes brands like Audi, Bugatti, Bentley, SEAT, Skoda, Volkswagen and other commercial vehicles. In India, Volkswagen has two sedan models Jetta and Passat and an SUV VW Touareg. The Touareg is currently sold only as a direct import, which means the buyer has to import it through VW India. Its hatchback model VW Polo is slated for a launch by early 2010. VW Polo will be available in both petrol and diesel variants in India. The company also intends to bring its premium small car Volkswagen Beetle to India by end 2009 or early 2010. It also intends to bring it’s another small car model Up! in India by 2011. With the launch of PAssat, Jetta and Toureg, the company intends to approach Indian market with a top-down approach.

 

The company is increasing the production capacity at the company's two plants in Maharashtra to 30,000 units per annum. The facilities in Pune and Aurangabad together will produce 110,000 units per annum. It has planned investments of nearly 410 million Euros in India for building a complete assembly line in 230 hectares of land. Volkswagen India also plans to build an exclusive dealer network in India to sell its cars in country’s main areas of demand.
