Nissan Motors India Pvt Ltd or NIPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of japan based Nissan Motors. It started its operations in India with the launch of its SUV Nissan X-Trail. Later it launched its sedan model Nissan Taena. Both the models were moderately successful and well-placed in their segments.
Nissan X-Trail still remains to be an efficient model in its class of luxury SUVs. The X-Trail model has been designed for superior performance on highways and is positioned comfortably in the D+ segment of cars. Nissan launched second generation X-Trail in September 2009 which was positioned as a tough, versatile SUV stimulating the spirit of adventure. Nissan’s new X-Trail model features latest electronically controlled four-wheel drive (4WD) system - the ALL MODE 4x4-i. This new system improves the vehicle stability by analyzing information immediately received from a steering angle sensor, a yaw rate sensor and a lateral accelerometer. This information estimate the driver’s cornering path and control front/rear torque split for smooth cornering behaviour on slippery road surfaces.
Nissan Taena is a fully designed luxury sedan and now the second generation model is also available in India. It is the first model in the India auto market that fully utilized the D-segment platform to give maximum comfort to the rear passengers as well. It is also the first car in its segment to feature the stylish glass sun-roof.
Nissan is now setting up its manufacturing plant near Chennai in association with French automaker Renault. It also has a joint venture with Renault and Bajaj Auto to produce ultra-cheap car in India that will be pitted against Tata Nano. Nissan intends to increase its sales volume in India and will brings its small car Nissan Micra/March by early 2010. The car will be built at Nissan-Renault’s new manufacturing plant that is expected to be ready by next year.
