Mitsubishi was first incorporated as a shipping firm in Japan in 1870. Mitsubishi means three water chestnuts or even three diamonds which are represented in its world renowned logo. It currently sells about 1.9 million car annually which is a small percentage considering that Toyota Motors sells more than 9 million cars annually round the globe. It has more than 20 models of various trucks, cars, minivans and sports utility vehicles. It has its R&D facilities in Germany, US and Japan.
Mitsubishi produces Mitsubishi Lancer, Pajero and Outlander in India. Mitsubishi Lancer is one of the leading models in the company product portfolio. CEdia is still being sold in the country but the next generation Lancer is more popular. Mitsubishi is also launching Lancer Evo X shortly in India.
Mitsubishi already launched SUV Outlander in October 2008 and Montero 09 earlier this year in March. The Montero 09 is available in both automatic as well as manual transmission version and comes in six exhilarating colours. It is priced at Rs 41.94 lakhs ex-showroom, pan India and comes as Completely Built Unit (CBU) as it is imported directly from Mitsubishi Motors, Japan. Mitsubishi Outlander is priced at Rs. 20.20 Lacs (Ex showroom Price) across the country and is available in seven vibrant colors. The vehicle is assembled at Hindustan Motors Chennai Car Plant, situated at Tiruvallur at the outskirts of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
