Jaguar is one of the biggest names in the history of automobiles in the world. Jaguar was founded by Swallow Sidecar Company which was basically a motorcycle company that produced its first car in 1935. It adopted the brand name Jaguar later in 1945 and by 1960 it acquired Daimler Motor Company. It initially produced luxury sedans under the Daimler brand name. The company subsequently merged with British Motor Corporation and thereafter with Leyland to become British Leyland Motor Corporation. This company also included two other brand names rover and Triumph and operated during 1970’s and 80s.

 

Later in 1980s Jaguar separated as its own company once again but was later purchased by Ford Motor Company of America in 1990. The company never showed any profits for Ford for 17 years and later in 2007 came up for sale and by March 2008, multi-national company of India, Tata Motors acquired all assets and brand name Jaguar from Ford.

 

Despite its volatile history, Jaguar cars have remained an unparalleled brand name for luxury cars that still tops the charts. Jaguar Cars Limited is headquartered in Coventry, England and international division of Tata Motors now takes care of the brand.

 

Although Tata Motors acquired Jaguar in March 2008 but it officially launched this prestigious brand in India only in June 2009. Currently, there are XF, XFR and XKR models in India priced at between Rs 63 to 92 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
