Japanese car maker Honda Motor Company Limited has a joint venture with Siel Limited in India and is present in the Indian market as Honda Siel Cars India Limited. Honda Siel Cars India Limited sells more than 50,000 cars annually in India and is known for its premium range of cars.
HSCL entered the Indian market in 1997 and launched in Honda City ZX. Later it launched Honda Civic in July 2006 and in November 2006 it launched its first SUV Honda CR-V. CRV is currently being imported as a completely built unit directly from Japan. Honda Accord is another sedan model in Honda’s Indian product portfolio. Honda Jazz is its small cars priced at Rs. 7 lakh and above in the small car segment. All Honda cars spell luxury, comfort and performance for which company seeks a premium. However, Honda cars are one of the most favoured brands across the globe and India is no exception.
Honda has its manufacturing unit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh built on 150 acres of land with an investment of Rs. 450 crores. It currently has a manufacturing capacity of producing 50,000 cars annually which will be soon expanded up to 100,000 units in next few years. Government is also contemplating options to reduce duty on hybrid and eco-friendly cars which may result in Honda re-introducing its models like Civic Hybrid in India.
