The American car maker Ford is world’s fourth largest car makers and marks its presence in the country as Ford India Limited. It tried to enter the Indian market in 1926 but packed its bags by 1954. It re-entered the Indian market in 1995 with a partnership with Mahindra and Mahindra as Mahindra Ford India Private Limited. It launched Ford Escort and MFIPL assembled and distributed cars in India. Thereafter, it changed to Ford India and there has been no looking back. It launched Ford Ikon in 2001 which was exclusively manufactured in India. Its current product range includes impressive SUV like Endeavour and sedans like Fiesta, Ikon and Fusion.
Ford Fiesta is its successful entry level sedan model. It launched limited edition models of Fiesta which were completely sold out pan India. Ford Fiesta is known for its budget range that encompasses dynamic interiors and contemporary styling. The model is available in petrol as well as diesel models and lures the upper middle class segment of auto buyers in India.
Ford Endeavour is a successful SUV from Ford India that competes strongly with Toyota Fortuner in India. It is available with automatic transmission and is laden with cool features like GPS navigation system and 4x4 drive. It is available only as a diesel model in India.
Now Ford India comes with a new strategy and plans to enter the small car market, a segment which accounts for nearly two-third of the total car sales in India. It unveiled Figo in India and will soon start production of its compact car in the country.
