New Passenger Car from Hindustan Motors in India

Hindustan Motors, manufacturer of iconic Ambassador cars in India, is set to launch its passenger car in India. The company shall launch its new passenger in October in association with Japanese car maker, Mitsubishi Motors. The declining sales of its longest surviving car, Ambassador, have compelled the company to look out for new ventures. It had launched its last new car Contessa in the year 1980 which was officially withdrawn in 2003.

“The company has, on its own, developed a new platform for the car. Though we have taken some technical inputs from others, the design is entirely our own,” said R. Santhanam, managing director of HM, in Kolkata. The car shall be manufactured at Hindustan Motor's factory in Uttarpara in West Bengal where its prototype is being rigorously tested. The factory has a capacity of 25000 units but produces on 12000 Ambassador cars from its manufacturing line.

The company also has a manufacturing unit near Chennai at Thiruvallur which currently manufacturers Mitsubishi vehicles in India. It is also the only manufacturing base for Mitsubishi in India.

while the news item is good, however it would be nice of the company management to let the public know through media reports as to how soon would the company be revived and be in a position to make profits on a consistant basis since excess land at uttarpara has been sold and the company has recieved quite a lot of funds in the last year and a half....moreover, the management had indicated to the west bengal govt. that the money received from the sale of uttarpara land would be used to revive the ailing company. a response would be highly appreciated.
