All new Maruti passenger vehicles rolling out from January 01, 2009 onwards will have fuel efficiency mileage display information on them. The company will implement voluntary fuel efficiency disclosure norm from next year. The company has already introduced a comprehensive training program for the dealer sales force across the country. Out of the 14,000 dealer sales force, 9,000 have been already trained for the same.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is the first company to implement the norms laid down by SIAM regarding disclosing fuel efficiency figures to the customers. The whole program is aimed towards adding more transparency to the disclosure of mileage figures for all the company vehicles sold in India.

According to the SIAM, all members of the association will mandatorily need to disclose this information for all their vehicles from April 2009. The Fuel Consumption Consumer Information will be displayed at the point of sale of passenger cars and two-wheelers by all SIAM members. This fuel efficiency will be tested by three government approved agencies the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) and International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT).

Maruti has already got all its 12 models tested at these agencies and has already disclosed this information for its latest model, A-Star as 19.59 kmpl certified by ARAI.
