India’s largest car manufacturer plans to launch its latest small car model in India this Saturday. The much await ed model, Maruti A star, is the fifth global strategic model from Maruti Suzuki. This means that the car will be manufactured simultaneously in several countries. It will be sold under the name of Alto and Celerio in Europe and other countries respectively.
The company also reported that it shall continue to manufacture its small cars like Zen Estilo and Alto in India. The new Maruti A star is expected to fall in the price band of Rs. 4 lakh and above. It shall be powered by the K-series engine for the gasoline driven car and the engine production has commenced production in October this year. The new A-star shares its platform with Maruti Alto in India. It has a similar 2360mm wheelbase as the Maruti Alto. It will be the first that will be produced exclusively in India.
Maruti aims to ramp up its production capacity to 1 million units by early next year. It currently has a capacity of manufacturing 7 lakh units at the Gurgaon plant and the Manesar plant will reach 3 lakh units capacity soon. Thus the overall capacity will reach 10 lakh units annually.

A-Star is an over priced car. You can get Santro Xing with AC, PowerSteering and 1200 cc engine at 3.57 OnRoad price (Mumbai).
Styling and looks no where near to I10. Dont know why its being compared to I10. Mujahid (December 02, 2008)

Guys maruti has cheated the original car is much diff than what they have shown at the expo the car model is much dull than what we have seen here ............

We are confirming the same with the different sources. We have understood from MP that the launch there is planned on the 21st of Nov.

Above 4 lac,it is very costly.Maruti should consider the middle man.Actually there are many models of other companies at this price range.

Maruti has a brand value. It will certainly be a great success if the price of the car does not go beyond four lakh for the top end model. Otherwise, there are number of options if one goes above four lakh.

Hi,
As per the information, the above car is made from the platform of Maruti Alto. Since they are making Maruti-800,Alto, Zen Estilo (small car segments) they should have to make atleast in little bigger platform as well as power. (ex. Hyundai Getz Platform). Hope they will do.
