Luxury Car Makers Enter the Used Car Market

Two arch rivals in the luxury car segment in India have decided to enter the used car market. Mercedes Benz started its global pre-owned car business in 2009 and currently operates in more than 35 countries. It has now announced that it will foray into this segment in India as well. Used Mercedes cars will be available for as low as Rs. 15 lakh which have certified by the company itself.

Mercedes is also surging ahead with its car finance program to boost its sales figures in the country. After one year of trailing behind BMW, Mercedes has once again regained its numero uno position in the domestic market.

BMW is also expected to follow suit in next few months. “While the final details are still being worked out, we will set up two dedicated showrooms for pre-owned luxury cars in Gurgaon and Chennai. We hope some of our existing customers can now upgrade to new cars,” said a BMW spokesperson.

According to the industry experts, Mercedes Benz is expected to benefit greatly out of this new business venture. It is an older player in the Indian market and has a larger inventory base of nearly 30,000-35,000 as compared to only 8,000 units sold by BMW since 2007.
