Hyundai Reports Increased Sales in June 2009

Hyundai Motors reported a net increase of 17.63 percent in its sales figures in June 2009. It sold 47,267 units in June as against 40,182 units in the last fiscal. Hyundai is India’s second largest car manufacturer. It currently has 14 percent market share and it is the second largest player in the small car segment next to Maruti Suzuki. However, Hyundai holds its number position in India as the largest car exporter.

Last month, Hyundai saw 5.16 percent increase in its domestic sales figures at 23,016 units in June as against 21,881 during the same period last year. It witnessed a surge in its export figures due to large export orders especially from European countries that are incentivizing purchase of small cars by European nationals.

“The first half of 2009 sales saw us maintain a strong position in the overseas market which of course saw resurgence due to the incentives in many European countries. In the domestic market too we maintained our leadership position although the growth curve remained flat. We hope that in the coming budget too the Government will continue its initiatives which it had taken to support the domestic market and would also take some positive steps to support exports which has huge potential to increase the sales of Indian manufactured cars in the overseas markets,” said sales Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL.

The segment-wise cumulative sales in the month of June, 2009 are as follows: A2 Segment (Santro, i10, Getz & i20) 42,524 units; A3 Segment (Accent & Verna) 4706 units; A5 Segment (Sonata Transform) 34 units; and SUV Segment (Tucson) 3 unit.
